Featuring on this concert’s programme are the works of two iconic composers of American contemporary music. “Music for a Summer Evening (Makrokosmos III)” by George Crumb, who was known for his radical approach and eclectic juxtapositions in classical music, whisks us away on an interstellar journey with two pianos played in countless combinations accompanied by myriad percussion instruments. In his “Quartet” composed in 2013 for 2 vibraphones and 2 pianos, Steve Reich, who pioneered minimalist contemporary music, harnesses motifs from his earlier works in the wholly distinctive style that has made him famous, swinging between jazz and pop music with distant airs of Debussy.
