Pianist Kevin Chen wins the Concours de Genève and the Fondation Etrillard special Prize

Kevin Chen lives and studies in Calgary, Canada, where he is taught by Marilyn Engle. Despite his young age, he has already made a name for himself in numerous prestigious international competitions, winning First Prize at the Liszt Competition in Budapest, First Prize at the Mozart Competition in Lugano (junior section) and First Prize at the Hilton Head Competition in Washington. He has already performed with the Calgary, Edmonton and Minneapolis symphony orchestras, among others. Kevin Chen is also a prolific composer, with nearly 100 works to his credit, including symphonies and a piano concerto. In 2013, he wrote River Rhapsody in tribute to the victims of the High River floods.

A show combining music, nature and dance.

His personal project aims to bridge the gap between music, nature and dance. It takes the form of a two-part musical programme that he himself devised for a concert: all the pieces in the programme refer to nature, particularly water in all its forms and states (rain, river, storm, snow, etc.), except for the last piece, which evokes fire (towards the flame). The two parts are introduced by Kevin's compositions and link to other pieces composed by the greatest musicians in the history of music (Beethoven , Debussy, Liszt, Chopin) who have dealt with the theme of nature. The dancers illustrate the second part and bring a human and physical dimension to the show. The evocation of nature is also presented in reference to the climate crisis: nature is a jewel that must be preserved.
